| 12289 | 2001-05-07 22:34:00 | I currently have win2k installed on my C: drive, but wish to have win98 on my D: Partition to play various games. I tried installing win98 on the D: drive, but when it came to detecting drivers for my hardware the drivers could not be found on the win98 cd. Whenever I tried to boot to win98 the computer crashed. what is wrong?? I also formatted the d: drive as win98 wasn't working properly. would this have affected any system / config files on the C: drive? |

Win2k can boot from either drive and uses its own boot menu. Also, when detecting drivers for things like sound and video cards, you might need the manufactureres discs and Win98 doesnt have half the hardware drivers that win2k does |

Create your second partition - FAT32 primary. As far as I know, Win9x must have a primary partition to boot from. 2. Using PQMagic, hide your Win2k partition. 3. Boot from a Win98 boot floppy and install Win98 onto the second partition (it will be called c: since the first partition is hidden) 4. Install XOSL to allow booting of either system. John |

I notice that two other replys have mentioned afew couple of fixes. They work but if Win98 dies again then your faced with the same problem and seeing that you have formated the drive you have lost the Win98 system files of the drive. Otherwise you'd have been able to use the boot menu that Win2k has and booted into your other drive. And reinstalled win98 without to much of a problem. |
