12493 2001-05-12 07:31:00 hey... i was just wondering what type of cpu the one that sticks out the side of your motherboard is? not the one that lies flat, like what socket or what ever you call it, because i want to upgrade my cpu but dont know what to look for. Thanks Guest (0)
12494 2001-05-12 09:57:00 I think you are talking about slot styled cpus, which have now been surpassed by the socket style cpus... both (W)intel and AMD have gone back to this style.

You'll be pretty hard pressed to find a new slot cpu faster than what you have now.

You'd have to use what they call a slocket card, which lets you use a socket style cpu on a slot based motherboard.

I think that best thing you could do is take you system in to a well known local computer store and ask them.

12495 2001-05-16 15:09:00 Refer page 104 in the May 2001 edition of PC World. The Pentium processor was called Slot 1, the AMD processor was called Slot A. This type of mounting system has been superseded now, so a replacement will be very hard to find. Guest (0)
