| 12473 | 2001-05-12 01:13:00 | I wish to copy my vinyl discs to CDs. Because sound cards have such poor HiFi specs I want to avoid using them, instead going through a quality pre-amp to a dedicated HiFi CDRW. I then wish to copy the music from the CD onto HD and apply Noise Reduction software before making my final CD. 1. How do I copy music from a music CD onto my HD so I can clean it (needs to be WAV file). I have an internal CDR and an internal CDRW? 2. Will this method avoid any noise and distortion caused by computer sound cards? I am currently running Adaptec and am yet to choose a noise reduction package. Any advice on good software would also be appreciated. |

I have one and I can't hear any distortions or noise, even with the headphones and maximum sound level. You need a good sound card anyway in order to do the sound cleaning. Try using CoolEdit 96 which is shareware and has great noise removing capabilities (CoolEdit 2000 had the functions removed). | Guest (0) | ||

I would suggest you focus on normalisation rather than noise reduction at that will be your biggest hurdle going from vinyl to digital. If you get everything clean and set up well, vinyl shouldn't cause much noise, in fact vinyl boffins claim it's on a par with CD. I like soundforge for editing. |
