| 12429 | 2001-05-10 11:33:00 | Hi, I have an Epson PhotoStylus 700 printer which produces badly banded photo's, particularly at the higher dpi of 1440, but does not effect lower dpi settings. I have changed the parallel cable, connected it directly to the computer (as it usually runs through the scanner),downloaded the latest drivers from Epson, replaced both cartridges, and are just about to tear my hair out. Can anybody suggest anything I may have missed or to try, or is it new printer time? Thanks in advance. Bob :>( |

This won't be as obvious with low resolution prints or plain paper, but very obvious at high res, or with good quality paper. With Epson Photo Stylus and Colour Stylus printers, the ink jet nozzles are not part of the print cartridge, but part of the printer. Therefore, changing the cartridge will not cure this particular problem. This type of blockage usually occurs if the printer (or one cartridge)has not been used for a while and ink has dried up in some the nozzles. To check for blocked nozzles, select Start/Settings/Printers, then right click on the printer icon and Select Properties from the menu. Look for a tab which says Utilities (or something similar). The Utilities page should give you an option which allows you to print a nozzle test pattern. On the same page you should also be able to perform head cleaning and check the printer is communicating properly. Note: 1. It may take several/many attempts to clear blocked nozzles. 2. Print a nozzle test pattern after each cleaning cycle. 3. The Epson printer communication tests are usually carried out using the Status Monitor option. Head cleaning, nozzle test patterns and printing test pages can usually be done using various combinations of the buttons on the front of Epson printers (refer printer manual). By disconnecting the printer cable from the printer and performing the tests using the printer buttons, you can determine whether the problem is with the printer itself or not. If this doesn't work, try going to www.epson.com and look up the Technical support/FAQ's for your printer. |

If a thread has "Guest" instead of a user name, it means it predates the current forum. Even for current threads, it is always a good idea the check the date in the header. Cheers Billy 8-{) |
