1. From the desktop, tab once to start button and right click it, either
with your right windows key or shift-f10.

2. Go to the volume control icon.
Start > programs > accessories > multimedia > volume control.

3. Press alt-enter to open up the properties dialog box for this item.

4. Press shift-tab to get into the short-cut dialog box.

5. Tab over to the short-cut key field and hit alt-ctrl-v and tab to ok to
save your entry.

6. Press alt-f4 until all boxes are closed and you are back at the desktop.

Now press your short-cut key and see what happens (?)

12422 2001-05-10 11:53:00 ...hmmm, sorry about the bad 'copy & paste' job above.

TIP: users with an Internet style keyboard will have a mute button they can use to instantly turn sound 'on' or 'off'.

12423 2001-05-10 13:14:00 Easiest method to make a shorcut to the volume control is:
a. Select Start/Programs/Accessories Multimedia,
b. Scroll down to the volume Control option and right click,
c. Select properties from the menu,
d.Enter the required shortcut key and click OK.

The easiest way to turn the Volume control on and off is:
a. Click once on the speaker icon at the right hand side of your toolbar,
b. Tick the Mute box on the (master) Volume Control panel.
c. Close the Window by clicking anywhere else on the screen.
NOTE:
1. To re-enable the Volume Control, take the tick out of the Mute Box.
2. If you don't have a Volume Control on the task bar, enable it by going Start/Settings/Control Panel/Multimedia and ticking the box labeled 'Show Volume Control on the Task Bar'.
