12554 2001-05-13 07:54:00 I have 8MB ram at the moment which is not enough. How much will it cost to top it up to 32MB. Any ideas how to install it? Where can I get the hardware from? Guest (0)

Dick Smith or a good computer shop will supply & fit for you.

12556 2001-05-13 11:02:00 Go to a reputable computer store. Because you have only 8 meg of ram, you probably have EDO ram. A good specialised computer store may have EDO ram. You should also top it up to 64 meg.Dick Smith, Noel Leeming and those type of stores will not have it as they are only a supplier. They will only send your computer away to have the upgrade done. 12557 2001-05-14 01:55:00 u will need to work out what type of ram u have. if i remember correctly there several different types of edo ram. the last price i saw of edo was about $300 retail for 32meg. for that price you could buy a second hand computer complete with 32meg.
a word of cation however some chipsets dont like running with certain types of edo. (dont ask me why)

12558 2001-05-16 14:43:00 If the RAM is EDO, you can get an 8Mb block for about $53. A 16Mb block costs about $148. Obviously buying the 8Mb blocks is the cheaper option providing you have enough spare RAM slots.

It would pay to check your motherboard book to confirm the RAM type and ensure there are no special configuration requirements for installing it. You will also need to physically confirm how many blocks are presently fitted to your computer (ie. 1x8Mb, 2 x 4Mb) and how many slots are free.
