| 12443 | 2001-05-11 03:31:00 | The fault first accured while I was downloading music match from PC World cd May 2001. The screen that had 'please wait while setup updates files' on it, froze. So I hit ctrl, alt, del. A blue screen appeared informing me that 'it was busy waiting for a response' or something along those lines. I pushed ctrl, alt, del again and when it booted up, after the initial start up routine of cheaking memory etc, it came up with 'cannot find SYSTEM.INI you need to run windows setup again to install the file'. The difficulty is Windows 98 was installed on my computer when i brought it new. I did not get a Win 98 CD. Is there a quick fix?, will important information be wiped accordingly? any information would be greatly appreciated. | Guest (0) | ||
| 12444 | 2001-05-11 04:03:00 | ...This problem arises when the Setup Program (in your case 'Music Match') cannot properly handle a System.ini file that contains lines with more than 78 characters. The Setup program tries to modify the System.ini file after creating a backup file, but fails to create a new System.ini file. Have a look at the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article. Although it relates to Win95 - it should assist: support.microsoft.com |
