12623 2001-05-14 10:37:00 hi, how is the difference in speed between Celeron and Duron, or pentium 3s?

I am running celeron 500, but i heard duron is cheaper and faster even faster in same clock speed....

I dont know what is the difference in cost......

12624 2001-05-14 11:06:00 Hello Dean
On a price to performance ratio you won't go past the Duron, it will give near P3 performance at around half the cost, don't even think about a Celeron, they are destined to go the way of the Dinosaurs (to slow in a fast world)

12625 2001-05-14 12:13:00 Hi Dean,

Price/performance-wise, the Duron beats the Duron hands down.

A lot depends on what you want the CPU for: is it just for word processing and general internet surfing (Cel or Duron OK) or are you wanting to do some serious gaming from time to time (Duron definitely)?

However, uou will need a graphics card to go with a Duron system. The Celeron on the other hand, has the i815e chipset's integrated graphics which cuts costs and is perfectly acceptable for word processing and 2D windows applications.

12626 2001-05-14 21:44:00 I asked the same question when buying my machine, and was told that the Duron is well known for crashing.. especially while playing games. So, I went for a celeron II 700. It goes fine for what I use it for - browsing the internet, and playing games.

But then again, I suppose it comes down to personal choice and how much you want to spend! :)

12627 2001-05-15 13:01:00 As a computer assembler/seller, I tend to favour the Duron/Thunderbird CPU's. They are cheaper than their Celeron/Pentium equivalents and out perform them in most areas. (Refer tests run by PC World and other organisations).

Our AMD based computers sell for less than the equivalent Intel based computers. This is purely due to the cheaper price of the CPU. The motherboards cost about the same as those used for Celeron/Pentium CPU's.
