Paint wont open them despiote the .dbx appendage. Can I consign them to the recycle bin safely as they seem to be just files from sites I have visited in news

12695 2001-05-16 12:10:00 ...*.dbx files are your Outlook Express files and the file path you provide is their default storage location.

E-mails and Newsgroup postings are not actually deleted from your system even when you empty your 'deleted items' folder.

To do that, use one of the following methods:

(i) highlight the 'Outlook Express' in Folders and then click File > Folder > 'compact all folders'.

- or

(ii) click Tools > Options > Maintenance > 'Clean up now'.

NOTE: on your 'Maintenance' tab is an option for Outlook Express to 'compact messages in the background' ~ a sort of behind-the-scenes cleanup function (just for Newsgroup postings).

I would recommend you uncheck and *not* use this function because system crashes may occur if the cleanup action is being carried out when postings are downloading.
