| 12694 | 2001-05-16 05:34:00 | I have a whole heap of .dbx files stored in windows/Appliocatuion data/microsoft/oulook express Paint wont open them despiote the .dbx appendage. Can I consign them to the recycle bin safely as they seem to be just files from sites I have visited in news |

E-mails and Newsgroup postings are not actually deleted from your system even when you empty your 'deleted items' folder. To do that, use one of the following methods: (i) highlight the 'Outlook Express' in Folders and then click File > Folder > 'compact all folders'. - or (ii) click Tools > Options > Maintenance > 'Clean up now'. NOTE: on your 'Maintenance' tab is an option for Outlook Express to 'compact messages in the background' ~ a sort of behind-the-scenes cleanup function (just for Newsgroup postings). I would recommend you uncheck and *not* use this function because system crashes may occur if the cleanup action is being carried out when postings are downloading. |
