| 12838 | 2001-05-19 04:47:00 | When scanning a photo it becomes a bitmap? file that opens in my paint program. I understand that to transmit a photo it takes less time & size if it is a jpeg? file. Please explain how can I make my scanned bitmap file into a jpeg file thanks Jim |

A basic but great free graphics editor which will do this and more is Irfanview available free from: http://www.irfanview.com/ or on this months NZ PC-World mag disk. Once installed, go to File\Open - 'your bitmap image', and when opened, select File\Save as - and in the 'Save As Type' dropdown box highlight 'jpg-jpeg files'. To reduce the size of files for transmitting you can either reduce the size of the image, or color depth - (if you start out with a good quality photo this can reduce the file size significantly with little noticable difference), both available through the 'Image' menu toolbar. If you want to permanently associate Irfanview with jpeg or any other files for editing etc, go to the Options\Properties\Exntensions menu & tick 'jpeg' etc, then in the future when you double click your graphics files they will automatically open in Irfanview. | Guest (0) | ||
