12841 2001-05-19 04:27:00 if i encode CD to mp3s with 128kbs and then decode it back to blank CD using Cd-writer

would i get same quality sound as the original CD ?

if i don get the same quality as the orignal CD, what is the point of ripping it to mp3s when i can get the near same quality songs from the RADIO !! i think recoding off the radio isn't illegal (tell me if i'm worng.. :-) )
and i can recod the songs to my computer in mp3 !

then how come the recording companys going on about the mp3s ??

if they find the song off my hard disk, i can just say
'oh, i got them off the radio and i converted to mp3s,!' since the quality can never reach the orinal CDs, and they can't find it out !

( tell me if i'm worng!!)

cheers.

12842 2001-05-19 06:14:00 when u covert a cd to mp3 and back to wave file u will never get 'perfect' quality. however if done correctly most people cant tell its been converted.
128kbs is ok for computer speakers(lowfi) for better quality rip it to 160kbs and above. the software you use to convert also has an impact on the sound quality. if you want to do hiquality rips/converts chose the software carfully.

radio quality sucks bigtime compared to cds or even 128kbs rips. most radio stations reduse the dynamic range of the music, ie make it louder but flater.

how are the music companys going to find out what you have on your private hard drive?? your not going to tell them are you?;-)
its the distabution of mp3's that they are fighting about.

its also harder to track and block someone swaping files on a peer to peer network.

i dont rip/download songs i just make backups incase my cds/tapes/records get damaged. :-)

12843 2001-05-20 01:04:00 Hi, I use CDEX to encode my Mp3's, I do them at a bitrate of 160, they sound sweet when put on to CD's for stereo's. Guest (0)
12844 2001-05-20 09:31:00 Since mp3 is a lossy codec then once the file is encoded quality is lost and can never be regained - whether you could tell the difference depends on the you.

The point of ripping into mp3 is convenience, end file size/quality etc.

Recording songs off the radio, programs off tv is just the same as downloading from the internet. The fuss over computer based trading is because it's measurable - instead of 10000 people recording song x off the radio that no-one knows about it's easy to do a search and find 10000 copies of song x and then put a value on it...
