12919 2001-05-20 13:08:00 Anyone know how to boost mic input?

Problem: still getting low volume from the mic. All volume controls set on max. Looking for mic boost but 'Advanced Controls' greyed out (audio recording control/options).

Must be something missing or old driver?
Anyone know which files/drivers to look for for sound controls?

Sound card is AWE64 model CT4520, running win 98. Headset Plantronics HS1.

Tried a different mic - but same problem when recoding (can hear playback clearly but only at very low volume)!

Also try checking the Windows multimedia settings (start/settings/control panel/multimedia). The Audio tab gives basic playback/recording options and the Devices tab will allow you to check out device mapping etc.

12922 2001-05-26 09:24:00 Hey K1W1 thanks for the post.

Have managed to get a bit more volume by messing with the sound card's own recorder (not windows recorder). The sound card recorder (soundo'LE) has a default setting of 'mono 8-bit 22khz' sampling. Changed it to 'stereo 16-bit 44khz' which makes more sense since the mic has a stereo plug and the sound card a stereo socket. Also un(de?)-selected all other inputs/outputs on the mixer controls. Still have to have the mic volume slider set at max but at least can talk to friends over the internet now.

Mapping: what is mapping and what does it do?

Looks like I have a lot of media control devices which are mapped as well as large number of video and audio codecs. Some clean up may be in order.
