| 12894 | 2001-05-20 08:17:00 | My PC came with a 2 GB 'C' drive and a 8GB D drive + floppy + CD/DVD drive Manufacturers programmed computer to access C drive preferentially + Windows is located there. Soon filled up C drive and thought lets move over to the larger D drive. I can save to the D drive but preference is still given to C + all my internet runs via the C drive. Can someone tell me how to make my D preference for all tasks and maybe move all Windows stuff to D? I remember something about it back in PC world in 99 but can't find it anywhere |

Last suggestion......uninstall IE5.5 (I assume thats the one you have) and then reinstall it but to your larger drive.....also will free up space on C...... Hope this all helps......believe me I've done exactly the same.... OH......an another idea.....when you've emptied out 'c' a fair bit....make a folder in there ........fill it with bout 200 Megs of anything you like ....then compress the spare space in 'c'. That'll create another 'drive' for you with even more useable space......then just delete the folder you created and filled with junk in c and you got 200 megs space left there too.....you must leave space in C for the system to operate....uncompressed space and ....only compress the spare room.....not the rest of the drive or you wnt be able to boot lol......(too much info ???... :-) ) |

| 12897 | 2001-05-22 21:24:00 | Thanks the Internet change worked Ok but when I embarked on moving stuff from my C drive Oh dear. I mangaed to stuff up my MCfee virus programs and have to uninstall/reinstall. However as they were intalled by manufacturer and aren't on disk I may be in the s... I had back up via zip drives but they wont run either as an exe. command cannot be found. My netscape naviagtor wont open but I think I have got round that by grabing the netscape. exe. file and shotcuting to my desktop. There must be some thinks that shouldn't be moved from C drive and if anyone can enlighten me I would appreciate it |

In the normal configuration uste ghost to clone the 2gig drive to the 8 give drive D: Shut the computer down. Swap the drive over 8 gig C: and 2 Gig the slave. Change the jumper settings on the drives to conincide. Start the computer..the C: drive 8 gig will now be EXACTLY the same as your OLd 2 Gig C drive. Don't have to reinstall Anything! David |
