13075 2001-05-23 04:58:00 Till recently I was always able to search for a lost file using the search function in Windows explorer.
Now it is simply not working any longer, dosn't matter if I try a search with a wildcard (*) punch in the whole name of a file.
Any ideas what could have happened?? Could I have disabled something, what is necessary to run a search on my computer??

13076 2001-05-23 17:07:00 In your folder options have you selected Show All Files? If not, hidden and system files will not show.

You could also try using winfile.exe to locate them. However, running this file could cause the file names to be truncated to 8 characters as it does not support the long filename format properly.

To trouble Windows Explorer, try the Microsoft Knowledge Base at microsoft.com.

13077 2001-05-24 11:16:00 ...it is possible that your 'Find.exe' has been deleted or corrupted.

You can do a manual search for it [usually at this address path: C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\FIND.EXE]

If that is the problem, it can be repaired using the System File Checker function (SFC) which is located inside the Tool tab of Microsoft System Information function - or just type 'SFC' (sans quotation marks) inside the Run function off the Start button.

Good luck !
