13283 2001-05-28 01:37:00 Problem: I have 3 remaining available PCI slots but larger boards won't physically fit because the CPU,heatsink and fan are in the way.
If I can extend a slot by 3cm a new board would clear them.
Any ideas folks??????
This problem has come about when looking at adding a second VoodooII card.

Thanks.

13284 2001-05-28 04:12:00 Can you rearrange the existing PCI boards that are in your system. ie sit all the small ones behind the CPU etc, and longer ones elsewhere - it makes no difference which slot a card goes into - the system will automatically correct configurations.
If by extend the slot you mean plug some kind of adapter into them to raise the socket higher, then no - to my knowlegde this is not possible, all cards have a metal attachment on their end, which would then be too long, or the wrong shape.

13286 2001-05-28 09:05:00 Thanks.

Nope. The two slots with enough room are occupied with my 2D and 3D graphics cards... both too large to fit in the others.

I am looking at taking a broken PCI board and cutting off the long tab connector. Then getting hold of a PCI type slot and then joining them by soldering ribbon cable from one to the other.

I can then jury rig brackets in the ATX case to take the board.
I thought there might be an easier way.
Rgds.

Thanks anyway.
