13140 2001-05-25 08:46:00 Does anyone know a shop in Auckland who still sell computers that are new and about $0-550, for just the CPU (nothing else, eg. keyboard... got that) It's only needed to do homework and word processing and printing which are the basics. Basic requirment is probably Pentium Celeron 400MHz 32-64MB ram and 5GB hard disk and windows 98-prefer windows me. Guest (0)

13142 2001-05-26 18:49:00 I don't fancy your chances. Windows 98 OEM costs about $315 and Win ME OEM about $308. Unless the shop has old stock, you are unlikely to find a CPU under a 700Mhz, and a Celeron 700 costs about $295. By the time you add the other components (hard drive, floppy drive, motherboard etc.), the cost of a new computer will be well over $500. Your best bet is definitely secondhand. But, as with all secondhand goods, it is always 'buyer beware'. Guest (0)
