13253 2001-05-27 08:51:00 Hi

This has me stumped... In windows explorer, right hand side box, I have lost the details and bold type heading that shows what folder you have open.

This used to say the folder name in bold with a faded blue colour behind it. Underneath this, I used to see description of the file (size, name etc) along with a thumbnail of the jpg or html page.

I have tried changing all the folder options (web, classic and custom), selected view as a web page, enabled and unenabled active desktop, reloaded IE and swearing at the computer, but nothing seems to be working.

I think it went like this when I clicked no to connect after double clicking a link in Explorer.

Using IE5.5 (went back to 4.0 and then tried 5.01 - still the same)on Win 98.

Any ideas would be most appreciated.

Thanks

13254 2001-05-29 14:27:00 ...you don't mention what Operating System is being used - but the following two Microsoft Knowledge Base articles might assist:

(i) Win 95 & 98
support.microsoft.com

(ii) Win 95
support.microsoft.com

13255 2001-05-31 10:26:00 Hi and thanks e_name.

I use Win98 OS, I did mention it :)

I went to those links, thanks, - but they didn't really answer or fix things. The info there is about losing the attributes in the details view such as file size and type.

What I have found out that a file called folder.htt controls the area I am missing. (Desktop.ini controls the background). I have edited this file in notepad and it is now sort of operational, but there is no background faded blue semi circle behing the bold heading which describes the name of the folder (above where the thumbnail preview displays when you single click a file).

This is only an annoyance I guess, but it looks so bland in black & white only!

Also the folders do not retain their 'view as a web page' attribute, even when selecting the make all folders look like the current one.

Any more ideas?

Thanks
