| 13344 | 2001-05-29 03:02:00 | I am running windows 98 and I am using the logon facility to select either myself as the user so that win98 uses my user profile or my wife as the user so win98 uses her user profile (we do NOT use passwords and the password option is greyed out) ?well it used to be. We used to select our name and press enter. Unfortunatley when we now try to logon to either of our profiles the password box is NOT greyed out and when we selset the approopriate user and press enter as we used to do, we are greeted by a box stating INCORRECT PASSWORD. As we never had a password to enter previously I have NO idea what password windows is expecting !!! I would dearly love to get back to the way it used to be without having to start from scratch. I have even tried to create a new user called ?test? with a password ?test? but when I try to logon as ?test? I also get the incorrect password. The only way to logon at present is to press cancel at the logon screen. Please can anyone help me !!!!!!!!! |

| 13345 | 2001-05-29 03:57:00 | Things to try: 1. In the Control panel under Passwords/User Profiles check that the 'Users can customise....log on' option is checked. 2. In the Control panel under Network check that the Primary Network Logon is either 'Windows Logon' or 'Microsoft Family Logon'. 3. Search for all .pwl files and see if yours are still listed. 4. Delete all .pwl files (to the Recycle Bin only so they can be restored if required), then reboot and try setting them up again. 5. Delete all names from the Users list and delete all .pwl files before resetting them. After that, I can only suggest a visit to the Knowledge Base at microsoft.com/ |
