| 13316 | 2001-05-28 11:27:00 | Hi, Ihave a Pentium III 450 128 RAM operating Win 95 I have a problem with scandisk, both with standard & thorough scanning. The utility checks my file allocation tables & then starts to check the folders & then goes back again & repeats this process over & over again without progressing on further. I have tried quitting all programs, turned off the virus detector & left only Explorer & systray running - I have entered 'safe mode' & managed to complete the standard scan. I have, with some help from a friend entered MS-doss mode & running the command line & then scandisk sucessfully found a way that works perfectly every time. But, I wonder why I can't complete this task in Windows & am hoping you can help me. Thank you. John Wright |

When you run scandisk in Windows you are using scandskw.exe and in DOS mode you are using scandisk.exe. If you have disabled everything and still can't complete scandisk in Windows then I can only assume that either scandskw.exe is damaged, or is located on a damaged portion of your hard drive. Try starting in DOS mode and performing a surface scan of your hard drive using the SCANDISK /SURFACE /ALL command. This will perform a FAT and surface check of all your hard drives. If you find no problems, then I suggest replacing the scandskw.exe file from your installation CD. |
