2012-05-09 23:34:00 | Hi, I am thinking of buying a game Sniper Elite V2 which needs a Directx 10 video card to run. I have a GeForce 7900GS 256MB which is Directx9 so from what I read it won't work. I see a HIS ATI HD5450 Silence PCI-E 1GB for sale which is quite cheap. Would this be an upgrade? It is Directx 11 but about a quarter of the original price of mine I bought in 2006. Thanks,

2012-05-10 01:14:00 | I have the Asus 5450 fanless card, It's great for what I use it for. So I could run a second monitor and because it's fanless so is quiet. I don't play games thoug and if I did I would buy something better | gary67 (56) | |
2012-05-10 02:20:00 | Bear in mind if the game doesn't support directX9 that means it probably won't run on windows XP, just Vista or later. I just thought I'd point that out. I have a 6450 in my media machine that has twice the shaders of the 5450 and I wouldn't even try to play games on it. The 7770 8ft suggested is a great gaming card for current titles, if it's too much maybe keep an eye on tradme for something more affordable.

2012-05-10 03:05:00 | http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/ gives actual comparisons on the same test to many different cards. The HD5450 is on the midrange cards at position 434 in performance, while the 7900GS is on the High end chart at 235 th. | wainuitech (129) | |
2012-05-10 22:46:00 | The 7770 is nice for the price range. The 560 is really nice as well if your sticking with Nvidia. The Demo for Sniper Elite V2 ran really nice on my 6770. How much are you willing to spend?

2012-05-11 01:35:00 | Thanks for all the replies. The video card benchmark is a great site as I see now the numbering and characteristics of video cards are very complex. I was hoping to spend $100 but it looks like it will have to be $200 for maybe Asus Radeon EAH6770 DC/2DI/1GD5 1GB. Oh I just see the Gigabyte Radeon HD6770 HDMI DisplayPort 1GB is $160 so that looks like me. Cheers, asdex
