1274082 2012-05-07 10:00:00 As the subject suggests. I was at someone's place on Saturday helping them with a few things on his Win 7 lappy. There is a blue star type icon in the middle at the top of the screen. Any ideas what it is for? When I clicked on it, it produced a line of other icons, no idea what they're for! I could not get it to go away, so I guess it is something to do with settings of some sort. The person whose computer it is, is very visually challenged (almost blind, waiting for cataract operation)

1274083 2012-05-07 10:10:00 Could it be widgets? Can you post a screen shot? stratex5 (16685)
1274084 2012-05-07 10:10:00 I think we would have to see a pic of it. To figure out what it is or what it belongs to Speedy Gonzales (78)

I may be able to if I am at his place next Saturday, depends if he can remember who his internet provider is and if he is actually connected to the internet!
I just thought someone may know exactly what it is.

1274086 2012-05-07 11:16:00 My Asus net book has something similar that leads to Asus settings and cloud storage and the like. Only appears on desktop .. does not overlay on other progs
so ignore it pretty much .

1274087 2012-05-07 11:25:00 sounds like a widget for various things, im sure my old hp laptop had something like that, and also a friends acer laptop had the same kind of thing.

but a screen shot would help

1274088 2012-05-07 11:28:00 From the description, it sounds something similar to what Acers have, they often have a floating toolbar style box thats on the desktop which contains various functions. Sometimes it will auto hide, and when moving the pointer close the top it reappears.

You can generally disable them in its settings or from msconfig. If its been activated while helping this person see better, they may be settings of some sort.

1274089 2012-05-07 22:40:00 Thanks for the comments guys, I will have a closer look at it when I am there next, and maybe try to get a screenshot for you. It does seem like it is some sort of toolbar, when you click it, it sort of bounces (like docked items in Mac) It could possibly be somethig his son put on for visual accessability. I disabled the text to speech, because he said it annoyed him.

Cheers, LL

1274091 2012-05-08 07:31:00 Thanks pctek, but I don't think that is it. If the guy calls me back to help him, I will check it out again.
