I find it a little hard to see how an 18 yr old can amass a great fortune. Just seems a bit cold hearted to me that someone would try and make a profit from someone else's misfortune. SP8's (9836)

1251417 2012-01-01 18:50:00 A couple of different aspects to consider, flying body parts set aside for the nonce:::

1) If he was a full time student, he may not have been emancipated and therefor his parents may be financially responsible for the actions of their child-of-minority.
2) There may be some insurance, although acts of suicide are not usually under coverage.
3) This might have been a way (vis-a-vis: no lo-contendere) for the court to exonerate the railroad (a "deep pocket") from responsibility, by placing the order for due recompense upon the kid and/or parents
