1273938 2012-05-07 07:46:00 You want your cpu to be running at 100%....

This should always be the case when doing anything intensive, Just as the software should be using every ounce of ram it should also be using every single available cpu cycle in order to do the work.

1273939 2012-05-07 13:35:00 Metlas right.

I'll echo the sentiments, upgrade your GPU, flag the rest for now. How much RAM in the box too?

1273940 2012-05-08 05:57:00 Yeah you wan your cpu running at 100% but if your cpu is not all that great then that is not going to help. Also sandy bridge or ivy bridge is much better because it is newer. A product that was $200 3 years ago will probably not be as good as a product that is $100 and new. Slankydudl (16687)

1273942 2012-05-08 06:28:00 I dont believe you really understood what I was saying. Never mentioned your cpu just stating the reasoning behind the argument that a good i7 ivy bridge will out perform. Also those cpus althoguh awesome are kinda slow and the 12 virtual cores are useless for games. Slankydudl (16687)

What?

Of course you never mentioned my CPU, You have no idea what I'm running, and its 100 percent irrelevant to this thread.

Now, The reason I mentioned "informed comment" and referred you to Google is because this thread is specifically about the upgrade path from an i7 980X cpu, The answer is that their isn't anything on the market to make the so called upgrade a viable option, The latest round of i7 cpu's is a big gust of warm fluff and the 980x is capable of holding its own.

1273944 2012-05-08 07:13:00 980x is still to be considered very very powerful. I do believe the 3770k out does it though (not by much). icow (15313)
1273945 2012-05-08 09:41:00 heck yeah. but considering general wear and tear it could be performing below the expected mark. But this would have no effect on gaming as you hardly even need a i5 2500k Slankydudl (16687)

1273947 2012-05-08 11:11:00 Yeah Flight Sim is pretty intense all around ... Probably one of the most punishing games in fact.

Also, CPU's dont "wear and tear". They either work at capacity, or they don't work at all. No ifs, no buts, it's all or nothing. The CPU will work or it won't ....
