1274649 2012-05-11 03:05:00 What is a Windows programme that can easily overlay text onto a photo? Tried Paint but it is very basic and hate Picasa.
Even prepared to pay for something that is nice and easy to use!
Thanks

1274651 2012-05-11 03:35:00 pixlr.com is an online service. If you are familiar with photoshop it will work well (opens and saves .psd's too)

Open an image and press "T" on the keyboard to activate the type too, or press the "A" icon on the toolbar to your right. You can then save the image.

Brilliant thanks for that. Have been laid up for a few weeks so have spent the time editing the hundreds of photos that have accumulated over the years. Downloaded them to the iPad and it was a breeze using iPhoto and so much easier than peering into a computer screen! Now the key ones will caption so that in a few hundred years the descendants will know who is who!

1274657 2012-05-11 08:32:00 Irfanview, which is free, can do this in a rudimentary way, get the plugins/addons as well, a very useful program.

Also Paint.net will do it.

Say what? $1k just to caption photo's? That's crazy!!

To the OP, if you want to note who is who in a photo etc, consider adding this information into the images metadata You can add info such as what you want (names etc) as well as additional comments, copyrights, search tags etc. I'm not sure of a good free version (perhaps Pixlr can do it?) Someone here might recommend something. I use photoshop myself, but that's for large amounts of design and photography work. I wouldn't buy it for a personal use system. Far to expensive.

There is an attached pic here to show some of what can be added. The benefit with this is that the text does not overlay the photo and you are not limited to the images size to put text in. You could write a short caption if you wish, detailing date, scene, event etc easily.
