| 13434 | 2001-05-31 13:16:00 | My computer (an IBM Aptiva with Win 95) has suddenly started freezing the cursor a few seconds after boot up. The cursor will not move in response to the mouse or the arrow keys on the keyboard. With no selection capability, it is difficult to get far enough to try anything that might give more clues as to the problem. Can you help solve this? | Guest (0) | ||
| 13435 | 2001-05-31 16:00:00 | Boot the computer in safe mode. If the problem goes away, then you may have a device conflict or a damaged program (which is attempting to load at startup). If not, then it is probably a damaged windows file. If you have replaced a mouse or keyboard recently, it would be the most likely cause of a conflict. It could also be a program which you have just installed or reconfigured which is causing the problem To check for device conflicts go start/settings/control panel/system/device manager, and look for any devices with exclamation marks against them (these may not show up in safe mode, you may have to individually check the IRQ's etc for each device). To fault find: Boot in safe mode and go start/run, type msconfig, then Ok, Ok. You can selectively disable devices and programs through this utility.
