| 13543 | 2001-06-03 05:13:00 | I have a PCDirect 565Ti, 133 mhz running Win95. Lately on both hot and cold startups, just after the memory check is performed I get a 'Floppy disk(s) fail (40)' message with 'Press F1 to continue, DEL to enter setup'. If I press F1 Windows 95 is loaded and I find that my floppy drive (A drive) works normally. What does this message mean? What does the '(40)' signify? | Guest (0) | ||

Talking about the bios, have you been to this site? www.pcdirect.co.nz Y2K Compliant It states that the bios on your PC isn't Y2K compliant. There are 2 lines with information on the 565Ti, the second line gives you the link to download the bios update. Hope this helps. Bill |

The 40 is a hardware error code that means your floppy is not being sensed by your BIOS, ie a seek failure. Even though it seems to work as you describe it would pay you to check through the following steps. 1. Try re-seating the floppy cable at the drive and at the motherboard in case there is a bad connection. 2. If that doesnt cure problem try a new floppy cable. 3. If that doesnt work, try a new floppy drive, it may have an intermittent fault, maybe temperature dependent. 4.If none of those work, then unfortunately there could be a problem on the motherboard. Best of luck. |
