13666 2001-06-05 22:31:00 I have a Compaq Deskpro 2000 and would like to know how I determine the CPU speed. I wish to have a CD RW installed but it requires 166mhz. and want to know if I am up to it!!
Any help appreciated

13667 2001-06-05 23:10:00 Hello Mary
All of the Deskpro 2000 range should run a CDRW with no problem.
However I think they all run Win2000 as the operating system if this is so, in your case, just make sure that the CDRW you are purchasing comes with drivers and software that is Win2000 compatable.

I am running Win95 - this PC is a 1996 vintage. any idea on finding out CPU speed.
the CDRW I am looking at is a HP9140i which the supplier recommends 166mhz or higher & comes with WIN95 + drivers

13669 2001-06-06 00:16:00 Hi Mary,
You can find out your PC's CPU speed at start-up, you would have seen a black and white screen when you start your computer with a whole lot of stuff that flicks by all to fast, when it comes up be ready and press 'Pause , Break' (above Pg Up, Pg Dn)its says CPU speed and all the other things you never need to know :) Press the Spacebar to continue loading Windows.

13670 2001-06-06 21:33:00 Hi Mary, If you are still not sure go to the following website & run the system information utility, its a small prog that should give you the info you want

www.evergreennow.com

PS:the info you need is 'CPU core''

13671 2001-06-07 09:16:00 Mary,

We used to use the Deskpro2000 at work. They are Pentium 200 with or without MMX.

13672 2001-06-08 02:05:00 If your pc is older, and the info dosn't scroll past on startup as indicated by one of the previous responses, then you can enter the bios setup to findout. In an older compaq to enter the bios setup, push and hold F10 when the blinking cursor first appears on startup. From there you should have no trouble finding the info you need. Guest (0)
13673 2001-06-21 21:59:00 I inadvertently reduced the speed of my AMD K6 CPU by choosing 'revert to default' in the CMOS setup. I now have 175Mhz instead of the rated 233Mhz. How can I get back to the rated speed of 233Mhz? Guest (0)
