By default all new Pentium III's come with Pentium? III Processor Serial Number disabled, however if you purchased one of the early PIII's it may have been enabled. To check if the processor serial number (PSN)has been enabled download the control utility from Intel's web site at support.intel.com
This utility give you the ability to disable the PSN but you can also disable it via the BIOS. Press Del/F1/F10 or Esc as the computer is starting to enter the BIOS, look for a setting to disable the serial number. Save and exit. |

Thanks Tristan for your help I'll give that a try. Trying to keep abreast of computer security seems like standing on a slippery slope sometimes. Maybe we should just give Microsoft our bank account details and be done with it :-) |
