13782 2001-06-07 10:42:00 I've discovered a file called WinAlign report in the WINDOWS/System folder. What is it?and if mine says that i have 49 files that have been processed and 49 files have failed to be aligned what does it mean? Is it a bad thing? Guest (0)
13783 2001-06-08 07:07:00 You're not the only one bewildered. Winalign is a utility that rewrites applications so that their executables begin on 4K boundaries. Your hard drive has to be converted to FAT 32 for this to work properly. Each program has to be run several times and is logged by another utility called Taskmon which Defrag uses to re-arrange the applications on your hard drive so that those most frequently used open faster.

I think, but may be wrong, that it is mainly Microsoft applications that are aligned.

If some of your files have failed to align then either they are not Microsoft files, or you dont have FAT32.
I wouldnt be too worried about non-alignment, but if you dont have FAT32 it would be a distinct advantage to convert.
Cheers.
