Win98 PC with p200, 64MB RAM.
Playing a music CD in the CD-ROM drive everything is peachy, but system sounds and sound from kids games are garbled, like underwater? Sound card is ESS1868 - have reinstalled drivers. The only thing that has changed in the system is the CD-ROM drive, previous drive was dodgy, this one was fine in another machine. Any ideas? |

It seems strange that the music cds play fine but nothing else does. The only think I can think of is to check the cable from the cdrom to the sound card inside the system. While there check the other cables, something might be loose. |

Yeah, thanks but - been there, done that. I think I'm gonna have to try and find another sound card to swap in and see if that makes a difference - that even system sounds are distorted has got me stumped, when the only change has been the CD-ROM drive. Weird city... |
