13791 2001-06-07 11:55:00 Win98 PC with p200, 64MB RAM.
Playing a music CD in the CD-ROM drive everything is peachy, but system sounds and sound from kids games are garbled, like underwater? Sound card is ESS1868 - have reinstalled drivers. The only thing that has changed in the system is the CD-ROM drive, previous drive was dodgy, this one was fine in another machine. Any ideas?

13792 2001-06-09 10:52:00 It seems strange that the music cds play fine but nothing else does. The only think I can think of is to check the cable from the cdrom to the sound card inside the system. While there check the other cables, something might be loose. Guest (0)
13793 2001-06-10 01:53:00 Yeah, thanks but - been there, done that. I think I'm gonna have to try and find another sound card to swap in and see if that makes a difference - that even system sounds are distorted has got me stumped, when the only change has been the CD-ROM drive.
