13929 2001-06-10 09:53:00 I am about to order a new PC and am debating which OS to run with - ME or 2000. My PC will be used for 'home' use.
I would appreciate any feedback on the pros and cons of either.

13930 2001-06-10 12:31:00 Win 2k is a lot more stable, being based on windows NT technology. ME is just a rehash of win98 with all associated problems, however some games wont run on 2k apparently. If you have no desire to run heaps of games, definately go for win2k. Guest (0)
13931 2001-06-10 20:53:00 If you can hang out til October 25, the newest O/S - WinXP arrives which is based on the stable design of Win2000 as well. I have found that the Win2000 stability becomes apparent when manipulating graphics & playing games. Guest (0)
13932 2001-06-11 00:08:00 I have been using both for sometime now. W2K is very stable and seldom crashes. ME, has it's place in life but I'm not sure where....? Its cheaper to buy but if its going to be used in business this quickly changes as downtime mounts up with crashes. W2K my choice without doubt. Don't know about games, don't have any. Guest (0)
13933 2001-06-11 06:48:00 Apart from the ability to play some games win2k is much better. It's faster and has options like encription and permissions if formated with NTFS. Unlike ME I have only managed to crash it a few times. XP seems cool but like all new versions expect it to run like a dog on older systems. Guest (0)
13934 2001-06-13 03:05:00 I would go for WinME, although alot of Win2k fans would disagree, but I have WinME on one of the computers here at work and on my home computer, before that I had Win98SE and thought that was good. WinME is a great OS especially if your going to use on your home computer. Don't believe what the critics say about ME, if you install it right and look after it you wont regret it. Guest (0)
13935 2001-06-13 04:16:00 Don't get either!
They both suck, get Win98SE. I run this on my computer and can honestly say that I have never had a crash. I run games and heaps of other stuff. Also don't wait and get XP. It has some stupid features and the protection is extreme. If you change your video card, or modem you might never be able to use your computer again.

13936 2001-06-14 10:36:00 Ok, it goes like this:

Windows ME:
Pros: Haha.. Dont think so
Cons: Crashes, Wastes space, Slow on anything under 5GHz with 16gb RAM, Has to learn about those fading menus from 2000
Overall: Sh*t.. 2/10

Windows 2000:
Pros: Yes!! The fading Start Menu!! Stabilist Windows yet...90days uptime in a benchmark? It can do all Windows ME can + some! Oh, and did i mention the fading Start Menu?
Cons: Some compatibility issues, but buy mainstream products and you'll be fine.
Overall: Good - Excellent, Brilliant for home or Office, 9/10
