| 13914 | 2001-06-10 06:03:00 | Just as my Windows 98-SE is almost loaded the computer is trying to access the A:| drive. My documents history is cleared, and no programs as far as I can tell should be looking there. I haven't made any changes to my PC including the BIOS settings. Someone once mentioned in the PC World Mag I think about how to fix this. I seem to remember him saying about accessing the C:\ drive ... but can't recall the exact details. | 13915 | 2001-06-10 09:58:00 | How far into loading Windows does it get before it scans the Floppy drive? When you install Microsoft Office (I think this only applys to 97 and above but don't quote me on it) it installs the findfast utility which periodically scans your computer for office documents, I think this also runs at startup. If you have office installed use the FindFast control panel to disable scanning. Also Norton Antvirus has a feature where it scans the floppy drive at boot and shutdown. If you have Norton Antivirus installed you can change your settings to stop it from doing this. Other than that, I'm not sure what else it could be... |

| 13916 | 2001-06-11 01:18:00 | Found the problem. A program I was running from the A:\drive (Winamp lite) added a shortcut to the Quick Launch toolbar?#! Therefore it was searching for Winamp on startup. Deleted the shortcut and no problems now. Thanks for your help - sometimes the little things can be so annoying :-) | Guest (0) | ||
