After doin a scandisk (thorough) and no errors disk defrag stalled at 65% altho hard drive was still sounding like it was defraggging.Stopped and restarted with same result.last defrag aabout week ago was fine. am using Win 98SE on hP pavilion 6505 puter |

Press Ctrl/Alt/Delete key simultanoeously. Delete everything which is displayed in the window except Explorer and Systray. Also disable your screensaver, if you got one. Good luck. |

thanks had done that left it a few hours next time went thru just fine must be one of them lil glitches one gets from time to time appreciate your advice tho :) |

another way is to go to dos prompt ' start - shut down - restart in pos prompt ' and run scandisk from there as there will be no other programs running.
Can do a standard or thorough this way. |

Or just boot into safe mode (press f8 at startup, choose safe mode) and run scandisk from there. No other programs should be running to interrupt your defrag. |
