13998 2001-06-11 21:55:00 For some reason I can't record sounds, either with the Win recorder or my Goldwave. I have checked that Mic is not muted & line-in enabled etc but no luck. I can record from CD OK. Any help would be appreciated. I am using Win98-SE. Guest (0)
13999 2001-06-12 23:56:00 Ok, I'll assume that you have checked silly things like mic plugged into the right socket on your sound card, mic switched on, mic works on another system, cable ok etc.

I take it you can actually monitor the mic as a source?
ie sound from the mic comes out your speakers?
If you can't then likely there is a dodgy connection somewhere.

If you are getting sound through from the mic, but just can't record it, then go:

Control Panel>Multimedia

Click the Audio tab and look at the bottom half with recording options. If there is a volume slider, crank it up full. If there is a 'Customize' or 'options' or 'advanced' button, click it and the recording mixer control panel should pop up.
Check that the mic in/out options are enabled and up their volume sliders.

Remember that depending on your mic, it may have a very specific 'gain threshold' such that below a certain level, you just get nothing coming through. This is especially true for cheap, nasty mics.

If that doesn't work, mate I have no idea.
