14188 2001-06-15 21:25:00 My win 98se runs in msdos compatability mode
and fails to detect the cd rom and cdrw in normal mode. The bios detects them and safe mode also detects them but won't let me run from them.

Have checked config.sys and autoexec.bat for driver problems but no success.

A friend had installed another MB and chip on my system and then removed this and placed the original board and chip. I can't find where any conflicting drivers etc might be.

Any suggestions would be appreciated

14189 2001-06-16 02:02:00 this is exactly why it is recommended to format and install windows from scratch when changing motherboards. it may be possiable to fix but it could be easier to format it.

try booting into safe mode and remove all deveices from device mannager. hopefully windows will detect and install the proper drivers on start up.
