| 14289 | 2001-06-18 01:06:00 | I play a game called SubSpace and I have been getting packetloss's of 25% which is very unusual.. As normally on a bad day I get a 6-8% ploss which might last a day or two but this is the forth day running and still no let up on ploss.. I have swapped between 56k connection and 36k still nothing, I've tried other servers all around the world (except NZ which there r none) and I have sent a letter to my ISP and hopefully I'll get a reply today.. The odd thing is that evan when I shut all progs that access the inet the two computers still flash very ver very often and zonealarm does not evan register it. I opened ZA and crossed all the box on every prog to stop it and it still didn't stop them flashing... What could be the probablem??? I do have a programe called surfplus from spedia but there is no unistall and I have tried asking them how to remove it. |

Lost packets means the receive leg is unreliable and data is not getting to you. This causes retransmissions and a bad CRC (error check) This is likely to be your local line cord, modem to phone jack, loose/faulty wiring in the jack, internal wiring from jack to master jack or to street, and then a Telecom line fault on the receive leg. Swap the line cord and get Telecom to do a line test at the same time. Telecom will see if there is a short (earth) on the line and come and locate it. This will have nothing to do with your ISP or the Internet itself. Good luck. |

If it works there may be noise on the line preventing higher speed V90 connections. If your game was telling you about packet loss it may be the gameng server is too busy or the software may be the problem. Test for the same symptoms using dial-up and Windows utilities. |
