14252 2001-06-17 06:18:00 Yes, well. I am planing on purchasing JetStart or JetStream in the near future but first i need to know if i can use it ove my LAN. i will probably use a Nokia NI200 internal PCI modem to connect to the inet. at the moment i use a program called Proxy, made by AnalogX to connect one of my computers to the net through the other using a proxy address. my question is whether or not i could still use this program to access the ADSL connection through the main computer, and save having to fork out extra money to buy a router. Does anyone use this sort of networking with ADSL at the moment? Or is there a technical issue that restricts the use of ADSL to only the computer with the modem installed? Much appreciate any replies. Guest (0)
14253 2001-06-17 06:39:00 Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) will network any client through the Gateway Server regardless of the Internet connection method being used.

I run two networks who have IHUG Satellite on the Server 2 clients. One is a Win2K Gateway so setting up ICS is a matter of clicking two options in the TCP/IP networking. Because IHUG still has dialup for the transmit path and a Satellite card for the receive you enable ICS on the Satellite card only.

The other network is a Win98 Server 30 clients which is a bit trickier. Win98SE has a protocol for ICS that it adds.

Set the Server(Gateway) as private address 192.168.0.1 subnet mask 255.255.255.0, enable DHCP foir Wins on the clients. Set each client Gateway IP as the ICS machine 192.168.0.1 and they will send their network traffic to the server.

I run Jetstart at home and this is the simplest setup. Enable ICS on the dialup adaptor for your DSL.
