| 14412 | 2001-06-20 20:24:00 | I am digging myself deeper into a hole and need some help please! I have been trying to get rid of the password screen at startup to speed things up a bit. However when I realised that I had lost certain functions that were contained in the main profile I had been using I thought 'no problem' I will just restore a previous registry from the sysbckup folder - after all I had done it last time with success!! Problem was I had read how to do it in the March 2001 PC world (pgs100-101) and tried doing some other things in the process, namely opening up the most recent .cab folder and copying the files over top of the existing files in the windows folder and in the 2 profiles folders I was using. This has now caused me to lose (at least it appears that way) all my settings such as dial-up networking to my ISP, all my outlook settings (folders, emails etc) and god knows what else..... I have tried to restore previous registries from the DOS menu (I have about 30 registry back-ups thanks to a previous PC World tip) all have come up with the same result. I am now out of my depth and need help!!! By the way all of this was to help try and learn about backing up and what to do etc - (ashamed to admit)I don't have anything backed up on disk anywhere at present....Please help. Cheers |

You may have to re-enter your settings in dial-up/outlook etc.. I know I did when I made a similar mistake and deleted my user settings under networking, but someone may know more so stay tuned. |
