| 14443 | 2001-06-21 22:39:00 | After connecting to Internet & receiving 360 - 420 byte nothing more is received. Previously ran fine. Running Windows 98 - Installed MS DUN 1.4, did not fix. Uninstalled DUN, rebooted, installed DUN 1.4. Uninstalled DUN Rebooted Installed Windows DUN, Installed DUN 1.4. I feel it must be TCP/IP but don't know what to do next.. Francis Thompson |

| 14447 | 2001-06-22 17:30:00 | cannot tramit/recieve data upon connecting can happen on a couple of levels. Fisrt er are going to use a simple dos cammand to help identify the problem. Go to a dos promt: type 'ping www.pcworld.co.nz' (without the quotion marks..do you get a reply. If not problem could be with you dns lookup - dang! Fixing this may require you to unistall then reinstall dun and/or uninstall and reinstall Dailup Adapter, Client for Microsoft Networks, and Tcp/ip for the dial up adapter. 'ping 210.48.100.12'..do you get a reply?. From the start menu, go to run and type 'Winipcfg'. Are you being assaigned an IP Address. If not this could be a problem with your Isp or Your network settings. If Ping Recieved a reponce and akknowleged this we know that the problem is on the next layer up. This layer being your browser etc. If you use Ie you can run the Ie repair from the internet tools menu in the add/remove dialog. If you do not have this option you may need to reinall Ie or if you use another browser. Get the installs from the pcworld Cd's (very useful). Another otpion that is vaild if you have a Firewall installed could be that either you have locked the internet connection off, or by mistake have set a Firewall rule not to allow your browser access to the internet. Depending on your firewall depends on the solution here. But to prove either way disable the firewall and trying connecting and browsing. Does this work?? One of the last options could be the way your modem is behaving it self for example the dynalink modems you cannsert this string in the extra settings box: '&F&D2%C1+MS=11,0' and for the 1456VQH-R PCI Modem, use: &F&D2%C1+MS=V34,0. So go have a look at your modems manufactor'w web site to get the strings bedt fit for you. For this flt though you can/should get some help from your isp if all this fails Jess |

| 14448 | 2001-06-26 14:21:00 | I actually have just read what i wrote and I think its pretty confusing. Here Is a re:worded edition.. cannot tramit/recieve data upon connecting can happen on a couple of levels. First you are going to use a simple dos cammand to help identify the problem. Go to a dos promt: type 'ping www.pcworld.co.nz' (without the quotion marks..do you get a reply ? Now run the ping cammand again..'ping 210.48.100.12'..do you get a reply?. What this test did was to he verifiy the connection to ISP's computer or by sending ICMP echo packets to the computer and listening for echo reply packets. (note : this command is available only if the TCP/IP protocol has been installed.) Did the ping Command work ? If it did not this may be an issue with your Isp assigning you an IP address. From the start menu, go to run and type 'Winipcfg'. Are you being assaigned an IP Address. Do you have an Ip address being assigned to you ? Right Still not working. Its time to reinstall Dial up-networking. By doing this Not only is dail up-networking fils reinstalled but also Your Network and Communication files ie TCP/IP are also renewed. To do complete the uninstall of Dialup networking. first remove the dialup adapter. This is found in Start > Settings > Control Pannel > Systems. Scroll down to Adapters and click on the '+' symbol. Highlight dialup adapter and hit delete/remove. Close down the Systems tab (You may be asked to restart your computer Do not do this). Now back at Control Panel click in to 'ADD/Remove programs' ad then in 'windows Setup' tab. Scroll Down to communications, highlight and click on 'detail' Remove the tick associated with dialup Networking. After hiting Ok/Apply you will be asked to reboot the Pc. Do so. Upon your Pc booting back up, head back to the Windows setup tab and place the tick agaist 'Dialup networking'. Once hitting ok you will be asked for you windows cdrom, Insert the Cd-rom and allow the new files to be copyed. Upon Request reboot your PC again. Try and Connect can you now? Next layer up that Internet works on is the browsers, msn etc. If you use Internet explorer you may beable to run the Ie repair program. This is located in Start > Settings > Add/Remove programs > internet tools. If you do not have this option you may need to reinall Ie or if you use another browser reinstall. You can get the installs from the pcworld Cd's (very useful) Another otpion that is if you have a Firewall installed could be that either you have locked the internet connection off, or by mistake have set a Firewall rule not to allow your browser access to the internet. For your correct Strings you would need to check with you modem manufactor. Remeber you ISP would love to help you solve this one, So use them, when the internet connection gets tough. Jess |
