| 14603 | 2001-06-26 05:28:00 | Hi, I have a laptop with no cd-rom drive. No parallel and serial port. No floppy. Its 1.3kg... I can boot to dos and 'format c:/s' with the program on c drive to make it bootable. However it does have a LAN port. How do I install win2000 via network using my desktop which has this cd in the cd-rom or its hard disk drive?? Boot up in dos and do what?? What command lines and switches?? Thanx in advance Ray |

| 14604 | 2001-06-26 11:29:00 | hi Ray, it's long and complicated to create a boot to network diskette, so I found a good link that explains it: www.transparentpixel.com Once you are on the network, map a drive letter to the share by using the 'net' command: NET USE X: \\computer\share you can then format your drive to FAT32. I find it easiest to copy the entire i386 directory onto the newly formatted c: drive. Go into the i386 folder on the c: drive and run winnt.exe windows will then start the setup. Don't format the drive during setup for obvious reasons. Once done you can use the convert command to convert to NTFS. You can delete the i386 folder once complete. Make sure your network card drivers are on floppy, or else copy them across when you do the i386 folder if they are on cd. good luck! |

If you are able to get files onto the machine somehow(??eg DOS), then you can still use the same autoexec.bat and config.sys files (plus the rest) from off the boot floppy. You will still boot to network. (use xcopy to copy the i386 folder) |
