| 14579 | 2001-06-25 10:09:00 | There may be an easy way but I don't know how to put a large file onto floppies. The file is 3.2megs and needs to go onto floppy disk. Is this possible and how do I do it. It is already zipped and will need to be spread over 3 floppies. Your help is appreciated!! |

It does not matter that the file is already compressed, this will just mean that you will have to uncompress two files and that the size of the archive will remain the same for successive compressions. Spanning is enabled by default in WinZip if you specify the floppy drive as the destination for the archive. |

Please note that spanning can only be done with a NEW Zip file and you can't add to it later ie it becomes a closed package (I found out the hard way & had to start again). So if you need to add more than one file to the zip archive (file) put all the necessary files into a single folder on your c:\ and then 'ADD' them to the new Zip file by highlighting & selecting them all together (see below). If you have WinZip already installed here is the proceedure: - Open up the root A:\ directory on the floppy. - In the empty window right click 'New \ Winzip file' - Name this Zip file to whatever the file should be called eg 'Games' etc - Open this Zip file & on the Menu Toolbar click 'Add' - then browse for the file on the C:\ drive. Highlight multiple files in the Same folder on the c\: if more than one is needed to be added. Now press the 'add' button in the applet and the process will begin. - You will be then prompted to insert a new disk when full. MAKE SURE YOU NUMBER EACH DISK AS IT FILLS. When it comes to Extracting, you will be asked to insert the first then last disks so the range is known, then prompted to insert the first disk again to begin extracting. This becomes easier once you have done it, and you will probably have no problems at all. However to save you time & get you on the right track these directions should help. I was in the dark for a while til I figured it all out :-) |
