| 14539 | 2001-06-24 09:34:00 | I have just recently got a new computer with Windows ME and it seems to be erratic to say the least. There are two problems in particular which happen consistently although not all the time. I haven't been able to work out why they occur sometimes but not at others. When the monitor or hard drive computer goes into standby it will not resume normal operation. ie; I can't 'wake it up'. When this happens there is nothing I can do to start it again via normal methods, so I end up having to reset it completely. It then has to run through an entire scan because it was not shut down properly etc. I have to isolate the problem by trying various different settings; monitor only on standby; hard-drive only on standby etc; but with no luck. It is *so* frustrating, can someone help me out with this? Also there seems to be a problem when shutting down the computer although this is similarly intermittent. It usually shuts down perfectly but every now & then acts as if it is shutting down then restarts all over again without me touching a button. I've searched the microsoft ME help info but can't seem to find any solid answers. Any advice or solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. |

| 14540 | 2001-06-24 10:02:00 | RM What sort of system do you have?. Are you using the keyboard to go on standby? if so what sort of keyboard and drivers do you have as I know there is a problem out there. |

Athlon 1333,300watt p/s,epox 8KTA3 motherboard, G Force 2MX 64 Mb graphics, 19' monitor, 40Gb HDD, 256Mb RAM, Soundblaster live value, Windows ME. I have a Microsoft internet keyboard. Sorry to be so non-computer literate but I'm not sure what drivers I have. I have tried to use the keyboard to go on standby but with no luck on waking the computer up again so I haven't tried it since. Most of the time it happens when my computer is not in use and automatically goes into power conservation mode. Despite trying different combinations of these settings (ie;properties..screen-saver..settings..monitor/hard drive/standby) I have had no luck with a consistent result. Sometimes it wakes up fine, others it won't budge. Any ideas/help you can offer would be greatly appreciated. This system is only a month old and yet I'm encountering such basic problems?!
