Of course, if you can I would go and try them both out. For me it would come down to "do I need the extra HDMI input for the extra $200?". Other than that they are very similar. | Tukapa (62) | ||

| 1252076 | 2012-01-04 09:38:00 | I have sold flat panels for the last 5 years and I would choose neither of those two. 50Hz screens that size offer terrible motion. If I had to choose I would say the Sony- You get Bravia Video and general better online content. But really you need to look at least 100Hz Refresh Rate in that size panel. |

| 1252078 | 2012-01-04 11:05:00 | I bought an LG LCD 42" (LD650) and haven't looked back. My son bought a Sony 55" (compensating for something I'm sure), my parents have a Sony 40" My observations are that: The Sony picture is very dim and even turning up the levels doesn't make it as clear or as vivid and my LG. The LG plays movies in all common formats out of the box straight from a memory stick or over our home network (avi, mp4, mov and wmv's). The Sony will only play wmv and we had to try and download a program from Sony to run on a USB stick to play AVI's. 4 out 5 avi's won't play. Watching Bluray movies and playing XBox on our TV seems smoother. As far as LG's reputation is concerned (someone asked who they were, surely a tongue in cheek comment), they have been around for a long time and in my opinion produce good quality product. Google 'who is LG' perhaps? |

I like Sony myself and have an older 46" Bravia I really like but I doubt there's anything wrong with the LG. If you want to spend a bit more a model with motion flow or equivalent is a good choice. My research would tend to indicate that plasma is better if you are buying the cheap models as it has less issues with motion and naturally superior blacks. At the expensive end of the market though LED LCD seems to dominate and they do look awesome in the shops. Also depends on use, they both have advantages and there is no clear winner at the same price point. Off topic slightly but the $200 would buy a nice wall bracket, buy brackets online or from trademe not from a chain store. The price is about 3 or 4 to one cheaper. I've seen $600 - $800 dollar brackets in stores, mine was about $120 ~ $150 ish from trademe and is a tilt and swivel adjustable one that lets me get at the connections on the back. |
