It's a question if you want a toy or a tool.

In any case, time will tell.

I wish to have something that fits me needs and budget.

My prediction is the tablet will get massive widespread support, as a learning tool it will viewed as more important then a text book, it will become all text books, all text books made interactive, all mankind's knowledge on tap, in full color and every angle.

Want to learn about stars?...hold your tablet to the sky and view a skymap 1-1 of whats over your head, travel further, tap the screen and the journey begins, with commentary, photos, audio, wherever your interests takes you.

The possibilities are almost limitless.

Talking to a member of the iApple class, professional NY and world traveler, he has found those that bought the I pad are not using and prefer the iPhone with McAir.

Thats the iwank factor in all its glory, lets hope its not a trait that defines the future.

Many people are going to have a tablet as their first computer, (rather then an iphone, a macbook ultra and the next wanky device that comes along) they will have all their music, movies, books, photos and personal files on it, it will be a video phone, a photo camera, a video camera, a tool for entertainment, communication and learning. it will give them instantly all the information they could ask for.

imagine if you will walking up to a tree while on a school field trip, Holding your tablet up to it and being told exactly what it is, what soils and climate it likes, where its from, what lives off it, Then zoom into a leaf, the structure of the leaf can be named and examined down to the molecular level. Then you can identify the gubs living on the underside of the leaf and what their diet and life cycle is....

You can save a few verbal notes about the item, and then take a photo of it and save to file.

On the bus trip back to school they can fire up facebook, watch a movie, read a book....check their calender/time table, use it as a calculator and catch up on their math...

The touch-keyboard will be only one way of interfacing with a tablet, Siri is an example of this, as is the touchscreen itself, If anyone thinks the future is being locked into a version of the type-writer then they are seriously deluded, and lack imagination.

Can't afford a iPhone or MacBook air, but could afford iPad. Haven't touched my compute since. Kids are happy no me kicking them off computer. Father in law got a iPad just before Xmas, never had a computer in his life. Loves it. Keeps wanting to come around to give me lessons. plod (107)

I can see all that happening and more but not until they can seriously upgrade the storage capacity or our 3G and/or wifi can handle better speeds, that is what is holding us back at the moment

Plus there is always the cloud you can access. plod (107)

All I can say is, it is nice to have an Oracle in our midst.

I should say, beginners do like the tablet.
