1253103 2012-01-09 21:57:00 Closest i've seen in a retail store are those HP Laptops that had a 20' screen attached. They didn't hang around that long. That one at Computer Lounge doesn't have an SSD either. Alex B (15479)
1253104 2012-01-09 23:35:00 Hence the need for a new plan, if I can't get a position that allows me to spend time with my family (2 weeks on, 2 weeks off would be sweet) then I'll relocate my family to a larger center.

I am getting a good feeling.

1253105 2012-01-10 04:29:00 Interesting, seems I'm employed again.

This time on a Geo-thermal exploratory drilling rig a few km's out of Taupo. Most of the crew are Icelanders.

1253107 2012-01-10 04:49:00 Well it aint the best but for the price/performance I find its pretty darned good.

HP DV7 6015TX

17'' Screen
2nd Gen i7 (2630QM from mem) which is 2GHz turbo up to 2.4 i think
USB 3 (if you care about that)
ATi 6770M Gfx (1GB DDR5)
2x HDD bays - on this model its fitted with a 5700RPM one, I use it for backups/other OS installs etc, got a 7500RPM in atm as the OS/Main storage HDD, looking at getting an SSD as the primary now.
4GB DDR3 RAM, got another 4 for $20 overseas :D

Got mine from itexpress for some 1700 NZD which was last year in august I think. Really recomend the company if you get anything from them. Very decent lot.

Wait for the next line of laptops to go on sale, if you see somthing you like get it, or get what you wanted when they cut the price for them.

So far this has taken all I have thrown at it, happy with it for the price. Performs decent enough for a laptop. Half the crud they throw at you is a rip off, the next model up was $2300, more ram, 7200HDD and a slightly better CPU, not worth the $600 price diff. Massive premium on the so called "high performance" PC's, cant wait till I can leave school and get a desktop

I did a few years in my younger day on a mobile rig (20+ ton), mostly water bores but also a bit of gold and coal exploration (went down over 400m near Balclutha). Really enjoyed it. Often hard work, but enjoyable (if you get the right boss). Geo-thermal drilling would be very interesting. Congrats again.
