1252441	2012-01-06 02:28:00	"Happy wife, happy life" ;-) That about sums it up. Got myself a iPad last week, I was 99% sure I was going to get the iPad. Looked at what else noelleemings had. But nothing else their had seemed to be as fluid as the iPad regarding the accuracy and speed of the touh interface. Now I'm not sure if that was because I was using show room models where the settings had been mucked around with or that's just how their we're. The same goes with the android smart phones. Got my son the motorola defy. But unless I looked at the gallaxy2. Their all seemed to lag a bit, even compared to a iPod touch. Admittedly these were sub $500 pones I was looking at. As for iTunes, this iPad hasn't been hooked up to any computer since I have had. No reliance on iTunes anymore if you don't too.	plod (107)
1252442	2012-01-06 02:37:00	Asus Transformer or Slider (depending on your formfactor preference) are awesome (though personally, I find the Transformer better). Hard to find the 3G versions in NZ, though, is the only downside. To me it doesn't matter, because I tether it to my phone for 3G data. The transformer with the keyboard dock can be a fully-functioning laptop (albeit it running Android rather than any Windows variation), though it is a netbook-sized keyboard.	inphinity (7274)
1252443	2012-01-06 03:07:00	Yeah I'm definitely a fan of the keyboard dock for the Transformer! :D @plod, yeah a friend just recently sold her Samsung Galaxy 3 and got an iPhone 4S. She's like "This iPhone is so much faster!" ... Well yeah of course it's gonna be faster when you spend like 7x more on the phone :-/	Chilling_Silence (9)
1252444	2012-01-06 03:38:00	It it were me, I'd buy my wife whatever she wanted. I'd recommend an android tablet but at the end of the day if it's for her then my preference is of zero importance. Believe me Metla, my wife would be happy with an iRon, let alone the iPad, and that is why she charged me with the initial research. However, and in the end, it will be her choice on looks, feel and form factors - hence why I said we want to have a hands on experience on the probable purchase. :o @Chilling silence: Eheheheh, the legendary Free Republic of Banana is located within all countries where democracy reigns. 1252445	2012-01-06 04:14:00	IF you want any sort of commercial app support then iPad is currently where it's at - there is the pages app which is a word processor, also rumor mill had it MS Office would be making an appearance on the Apple App Store this year. If you planned on using it for typing a bit then you can use a Bluetooth keyboard, but as others have said, if you're writing a novel then you're better off with a laptop. Be aware you are dealing with a bunch of android fan boys here, and to be quite frank they are just as bad as the apple ones, you will not get an unbiased opinion. As for the lawsuit bit, dig a bit deeper you will find they all sue each other. Personally I've had a xoom and ipad 2 for a reasonable amount of time and found them both good, but to be honest as a "power user" always kept going back to my laptop after a little while. 1252447	2012-01-06 07:17:00	Ok, excellent . :thumbs: All your input has helped me clear some air around the needs vs the wants . It definitely won't be an iPad because my wife would get very little use from it due to the garageband software that can be purchased for it, but also due to some ethical decisions I have made after reading a bit of the apple stance on taking the competition to court . So, it will either be a laptop or an Asus thingymagig . But my wife and I will need to have the opportunity to have a kinestetic experience with the product before purchase and the local harvey norman does not stock the Asus, and would not order one in unless we commit to purchasing it . I'll try noel leeming and/or dick smith . Thank you all for the awesome advice . Why? I doubt they would be suing anyone and they suck so much that your wife (who I believe you are buying for) will be unable to use in the way that she wanted . I'm not saying that the Asus tablet is a bad choice nor am I saying go out and buy an iPad just because it was shoved down everyone's throat constantly . I'd actually recommend the Asus Transformer (Long battery life and the gorilla glass are great features to have) . I'm just confused/concerned as to how you came to that decision .	icow (15313)

1252449	2012-01-06 10:17:00	Fair enough comment about the phones, but the tablets were all within the iPads price range if not more expensive. I agree. My Honeycomb tablet (Dual-Core 1Ghz) doesn't perform quite as nicely as my Ice Cream Sandwich phone (Single-core 1Ghz), I'm looking forward to the ICS upgrade for the Transformer, apparently later this month.
