1275331 2012-05-14 09:42:00 A friend has discovered his SD card (or malware)
has corrupted some .jpeg files, naturally, there is no back up.
Have any of you replaced a corrupted header?
About how far in does the header end?

1275332 2012-05-15 09:07:00 I used "PhotoRec" to recover jpegs that had been written with a faulty DVD drive:

pcsupport.about.com

"The free PhotoRec file recovery tool does the job but it isn't nearly as easy to use as other programs on my list.

PhotoRec is limited by its command-line interface and multiple step recovery process. However, my greatest problem with PhotoRec is that it's very difficult to avoid recovering all deleted files at once, not just the one or two you're after.

PhotoRec can recover files from hard drives, optical drives, and memory cards. PhotoRec should be able to undelete files from any storage device on your PC.

PhotoRec supports Windows Vista, XP, Server 2003, 2000, NT, ME, 98, and 95. I tested PhotoRec in Windows Vista.

If another file recovery program hasn't worked, give PhotoRec a try. I just don't recommend making it your first pick."

1275333 2012-05-16 10:15:00 Thanks BBCmicro,
Photorec is what I already used to recover his files, it found some.
Then I used Recuva, it found others as well.

But some are missing their headers.
Should start ff d8 ff (in hex)
A bad one starts 53 c0 49

They are from the same camera, on the same day
so I intend to attempt to write a new file in hex with a header
from a good one and the rest of the hex from the other.
Haven't time to experiment 'til next week,
so, I had hoped someone might have done it before, or had some tips.

Cheers
