14845 2001-07-02 08:47:00 Hi, is there any danger of deleteing the temp and temporary internet files just like cookies. Its taking far to many space. Or will it delete itself every while? Guest (0)
14846 2001-07-02 09:12:00 When viewing web pages, internet explorer caches them into a directory called temporary internet files. This reduces the time needed to load the same page again since it is already stored on the computer. As the cache approaches the specifed size limit older cached files are deleted. These files are safe to delete and will downloaded again when necessary.

To clear the cache, go to Tools / Internet Options / Click the Temporary Internet Files Delete button.

To reduce the space being used in internet explorer, go to Tools / Internet Options / Click the Temporary Internet Files Settings button and drag slider to set a new limit.

The temp directory is similar and it is safe to delete the contents.

Now scroll down to the bottem of the list and put a tick in the box that says ' Empty Temporary Internet Folder When Browser Is Closed.
What this will do is delete these files for you but because the cache is being emptied with each browser shutdown, you have to reload them again. A minor inconvinence for extra space obtained. Hope this helps. Ian.

14848 2001-07-04 00:14:00 Generally no. Some programs use temp folder to stores files when working.
As a rule I usually delete any temp files that do not have the current date, just in case any program needs them.
Some setup programs leave files in the temp folder. These can be deleted after install.
