I normaly defragment when hard drive is 2% fragmented and find no trouble in doing it.But find the computer runs no faster. Can I leave the defragmenting say at 5% or even 10%.I have Windows 98SE 4GB hard drive 233MHz. Thanks for a reply. |

Defragging depends on how often you move files around etc, but doesn't seem to matter too much below 10% defragmentation. See: computers.rochester.rr.com |

5% of 4g is not much compared to 2% of 20g. it depends on what you use, how full the hard drive is and how long does it take to do a defrag. if you are not a power user then leave it untill you notice it running a bit slower. |
