14835 2001-07-02 03:10:00 Deleting telltale signs of your Internet activity, such as cookies, history files, graphics and cache files, is not quite the end of the story. If you think that this is all you need to do then you?re in for a surprise. If you right click any word in Microsoft Word and select ?Hyperlink?, and then click ?Browsed Pages?, you?ll have a very nice collection of your web browsing. So it begs the question, how to delete this list? Guest (0)
14836 2001-07-02 03:36:00 Hello Ian
The Hyperlink list you see is merely a mirror of your history folder, to clear just go to Internet Explorer > Tools > Internet options > Clear History.
Done all links gone.

14837 2001-07-02 03:44:00 Hello Alan. Yes I have tried that (Internet options) but this does not delete the list held by Hyperlink's browsed pages? I have searched all over the hard drive to try and find some reference but to no avail? Any other help will be very much appreciated. Thanks. Guest (0)
14838 2001-07-02 04:29:00 OK heres the low down. First open IE and delete your history & empty your temp internet files. Next use windows explorer & empty cookies - check again that temp internet files & history folders are empty. As you say this is only half the story, and it is the index.dat files which give you away. So next select Start\Shutdown\Restart in MS DOS mode. Now (assuming you have IE 5.x) at the DOS prompt - to properly delete history type: del c:\windows\history\history.ie5\index.dat

To delete cookies type: del c:\windows\cookies\index.dat

To delete temporary internet files type: del c:\windows\tempor~1\content.iet\index.dat

Type Exit when finished. Note also that there is a space between the del & c:\ etc. To save you having to do this all the time, the above index.dat files can also be deleted automatically during startup:
Start\Run\Sysedit - add each command on a seperate line to the Autoexec.bat file, betweenn the echo commands.

If you are really concerned download the 30 day trial version of Evidence Eliminator from the site below. This program is good but don't use it unless its your computer & be careful what you check for the options. This is a real sledgehammer deletion program, it kills everything you don't want :-)

14840 2001-07-02 05:50:00 Just noticed a typo 'iet' - as you probably have figured, for temp internet files it should be del c:\windows\tempor~1\content.ie5\index.dat Guest (0)
14841 2001-07-02 22:10:00 Yes I understood the typo. Thanks once again Paul. Regards Ian. Guest (0)
